7. After the Battle

Once the battle has been played and victory points tabulated, determine what spoils of war the victor has plundered from the loser.  The more decisive the victory, the more likely something of value has been brought back from the field of battle.

The spoils of war are determined according to the following formula:

SWV = [ (Winner VP's) / (Loser Army Pts.)]
- [ (Loser VP's) / (Winner Army Pts.)]
+ Village/Fortress Bonus

Work out the winner's Battle Ratio (BR).  Multiply the number of victory points the winner has earned by 100, then divide by the original points value of the losing army.

Work out the loser's BR the same way, multiplying the number of victory points he or she earned by 100, and dividing by the original size of the winning army.

Almost always, the winner will have a higher BR than the loser, although it is possible for the loser to have a higher value in the case of very close battles where the loser fielded more points than the attacker (because of handicap, or a few leftover points).

Subtract the loser's battle ratio from the winner's to calculate the SWV value.

Winning a battle on the enemy's turf makes it more likely to recover something of value from the battlefield. If the battle was fought at a village owned by the losing army, add 10 to the SV.  If the battle was fought at the loser's fortress, add 20 to the SWV.

SWV Spoils of War

Triumph
The winner is awarded his choice of the loser's magical items, but may not choose any item he already holds. If the loser has no magical items not already held by the winner, the winner may roll one from the magical item table. For his stunning victory, he is awarded a second magical item, rolled on the magical item table. Re-roll any result that indicates an item the winner already holds.  In addition, his army is awarded two Battle Honours.

Victory
The winner is awarded his choice of the loser's magical items, but may not choose any item he already holds. If the loser has no magical items not already held by the winner, the winner may roll one from the magical item table.  Re-roll any result that indicates an item the winner already holds.  In addition, his army is awarded one Battle Honour.

21-30

Success
The winner is awarded one of the loser's magical items, chosen randomly. If the loser has no magical items not already held by the winner, the winner may roll one from the magical item table.  In either case, re-roll any result that indicates an item the winner already holds.  In addition, his army is awarded one Battle Honour.

0-20

Qualified Success
The loser is forced to concede one magical item of his choice to the winner, who also receives a Battle Honour.  The loser may not choose any item the winner already has.  If the loser has no magical items not already held by the winner, the winner may roll one from the magical item table.  Re-roll any result that indicates an item the winner already holds.

Pyrrhic Victory
The winner holds the field, but at a tremendous cost. The loser's army receives a Battle Honour.

Once the spoils of war have been worked out, shake hands and inform the campaign organizer of the results of the battle so that he or she can update the roster. Each player has the opportunity to change his territory at the end of each battle. This should be decided immediately after the battle and sent in with the battle results (after all, it takes time to move your base of operations to a new fortress).

That's it for the TSC rules! I hope you enjoy using them. If you have any feedback, questions or comments, email me, Michael Prescott
